PC Gamer reviews Doom 3. From: http://d3c.ngz-network.de/comment.php?76
Highs: Extraordinary graphics and sound; incredible tension, atmosphere, and mayhem. Lows: Some stabs at humor fall a bit flat. Bottom Line: Just as we'd hoped, it's a non-stop ride of tension, carnage and terror. A new classic. They say it will take 20+ hours to finish. Took the reviewer 24 hours to play [on "Can I Play Daddy" easy mode]. 94% |

Sounds interesting, or has the magazine sold out for early code?
I must admit that I was looking forward to Half Life 2 much more than I was Doom 3, although it'll be interesting to see how well received it is in other gaming magazines. Apparently, it's due for release on 6th August |

I think I'll be waiting for more reviews before making a buying decision, exclusive reviews of hyped titles like Doom 3 aren't always the most balanced. Like you I'm more interested in HL2, Doom never really grabbed me.

I'm the same as you guys. I'm more excited about Half Life 2 than Doom 3. From what I've been reading in the past, Doom 3 is more or less just like the classic Doom titles but in ultra lush 3D graphics. So that kind of gives the impression that its just a game with much better graphics and not much else is changed. Looks like the system specifications recommended by PC Gamer seem to be a tad high.

Doom 3. What's to said about this one?
I was looking forward to this game but after having played through the first twelve levels I find it's got dreadfully boring,i.e shooting same old enemies time after time in dark boring corridors, bit of a no brainer really which is a shame as it started out quite well. Not going to have the impact of the first Doom i'm afraid or perhaps Iv'e been playing too long for my own good.Any comments folks. Few more opinions and Doom 3 related stuff in this thread.
I do agree though, it does become slightly monotonous - I find it okay to play in quick blasts, but can't quite stomach a Doom3 session that goes on for more that... oooh.. an hour? Tis a great shame. |
