This is trickier than you might think.
Of the Xbox, PS2 and other (GC in my case), I don't own a PS2. I moved from a PS1 to an Xbox because the X was far more powerful and I fancied a pc's power for console use without the PC hassle of set up, repatch, etc. However once I got the Xbox and a few games....I soon found that whilst it had the hardware, it lacked the support from the games industry and there really weren't enough games out there that I actually wanted to play! The only Xbox games I play at all frequently are Project Gotham (the 1st one) and Dead or Alive. (This said, as a fellow not owning an independant DVD player I use the Xbox almost soley for this and it's heaven sent :D ) Several months later I got myself a Nintendo GC and despite it's non DVD format this has been an excellent little console, with sharpe graphics, intelligent and thought provoking games and is an ongoing joy. If I were to consider a third console it would not be the Xbox2. I would far rather a PS2. Not only for the games written for it now, but for it's backwardly compatible slant. (I miss Driver and Bust a move which I had on my PS1). The PS series has a far larger range of games and although it may look a little out matched by the technology of the Xbox, when push comes to shove I'd rather have a wider choice of good games that look so so, than a small choice of poor games that look neat. |

Although I would of voted for PS2 instead, I voted for Other because I wanted to include the other consoles, namely the Gamecube, and maybe the good old Dreamcast.
Reason for this is because I just dont like the Xbox. Its just a PC in a box and even though its 'so powerful' campared to the other consoles, its the lack of games support, mainly Japanese game support that puts the console down. Microsoft should really learn that its not the most powerful hardware that matters, but the games itself. What use of hardware if there are hardly any good games for a console. Sure there are some good games like Halo for example, but if you think about it also, most of the games on the Xbox are PC-type games. Probably the only Japanese developer I see supporting the Xbox is SEGA & Tecmo, but even then, their games would be better off elsewhere. With consoles like the GC & PS2 and even the DC, theres a whole variety of games and loads that are well suited for console play. Mostly PS2 though since it has hundreds of games. GC has more 'AAA' titles as you would call it since Nintendo themselves produce some top quality games for their console. The same goes for SEGA and their DC before it stopped production. |

Hurray! I'm the only person to have voted for PS2 (I don't actually own any of them)
Why? Ummm.... Wide variety of games, and Eye Toy - the add-on that can make you appear just slightly odd to anyone who catches you mid-game. |

Well the GBA would come under the 'Other' section as well. I think this topic is more in the lines of the major consoles and not really much along the lines of the hand helds. Although they shouldnt be left out. Besides many people tend to own a console and a hand held anyways so theres not really much to talk about them.

I like the GBA - it has lots of retro titles that I remember from my youth - many of them former Amiga games, oh happy days...

I liked the good old Sega Mega Drive/Arcade classics that it has from around the late 80s to early 90's like Golden Axe!

Except that it wouldn't be the same, as it's never the same playing console games on a PC - you don't get the right 'feel'.
Also, the Amiga Emulator is a bugger to work, and the end result is often a disappointing version of what you remember as a classic game - ergo, Emulators are filthly, lying pieces of software - and my memories are perfect... Golden Axe was class.... |
