QUOTE
Pixel Rage has compiled a list of user-made modifications for Oblivion that should never have been necessary (i.e. features that should have been in the game out of the box). Oblivion, for all its praise, is strewn with bugs and other maladies that degrade the overall experience. You might find that harsh and overcritical, but we think its warranted to hold a title that spent over three years in development (on an engine the developer had been using for almost eight years) to higher standards.
The modifications listed include: * More realistic weather patterns, vegetation, and habitat, including the addition of birds and insects. * Murkier, more transparent / realistic water effects. * Light that shines through windows at night. * Adding side effects to drinking too much wine (it's about time we get double vision for dipping to much into Skingrad's finest ... ). * Inventory list customization. * Interjections of silence within the constant soundtrack (a clever way to add to the atmosphere). * Unique icons for spells. * Various quest-specific fixes. Joystiq Still yet to play Oblivion - I really wanted to upgrade my PC before I did.. looks like I'll just forget about that now, and just get the new-fangled Might and Magic game. |

I wish the site would link us to all these wonderful mods rather than just talking about them.
EDIT: Oh right, you can clikc on the image, not the way I would have designed it though, really not obvious. --------------------

Looks good. The actual unmodded game is so huge I didn't want to know about the many mods that were either in development or available, especially with the added official Oblivion expansions.
But this is a very handy guide. It's just a shame, I'm sure, that adding birds and insects and the like will require even more graphical processing grunt and my system was already struggling. It'd be nice to try them though, and especially so of the engine enhancement mods - my own game used to crash without fail just about every time I quit it (though I got used to shutting it down via task manager). I'd still get this game, Pig. It's a classic. And it's a world away from that Dark Messiah game... I ran it fine with medium settings - I think my PC specs are in my profile. --------------------

RPGs, RTSs - PC fodder.
Zombie killing, car driving, shooting things till they die, retro gaming to waste all the power of your new system running things that are more than 10 years old - XBox. Also, the mods won't be available for the 360 |
