Game Trailers have a couple of videos from Unreal Tournament 2007 - it looks very pretty, and the second video shows off a few of the weapons... but do I really need to buy this game every couple of years, or should I wait for an advance in gameplay, instead of a new graphical treat?
That said, there's always wondeful mods for UT - and it's those than tend to weaken my resolve. Video #1 Video #2 |

The lighting, and the outside of the level in the second video is certainly very impressive (and will no doubt require a beefy machine to run well), but as you say Pig, from here it just looks like all the other UT games which another coat of paint, though it does probably make a difference. I won't be upgrading my machine to run this, I've never really got into the UT series, and this new addition doesn't excite me too much.
If they get round to making a new Counter Strike however, I may take a different stance (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) |

It looks pretty in a superficial kind of way, but as you say the weapons are the same and I can't help feeling it would be tons better if everything you shot reacted in some fashion, exploding, fragmenting and so on.
Frankly I rather liked the skeletal conveyor belts. It made me think you could create an interesting story line (especially with such natty visuals) with maybe an person waking up (you) in a skeletal body in this futuristic location, escaping from the build plant and exploring the new world. Not original but would give you scope to explore a lot of snazzy visuals and stuff. The problem with the excess visuals in UT games is they just get you killed. |

My first thought was too much HDR, the light is reflecting of everything like crazy, don't know if it will be like that all thorugh the game but I hope you can turn it down. Looks pretty much the same as the others apart form that, same guns looking slightly different. Not much in it really.

Videos didn't show much, and I'd personally first like to see some improvements in gameplay than some "sci-fi -realistic" animations on the guns (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Not that I'd quickly think of any from 2004. Maybe I'll get excited when they show some onslaught action!
Making the levels "work" like they'd be real places was a nice idea, though. They better have the engine as sweet as 2004 to run on my current system.. |

Yea, 2004 really didn't need that much power to run. My old machine ran it easily on quite high graphics.

As pretty as this upcoming game and engine is, it really is just another "Yawn, graphics update, FPS, generic, blah blah blah" type of thing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif).
With so many upcoming games coming out for the PC, Xbox360 and PS3 using the Unreal 3 engine, you can't help but to notice that they all look almost the same. I mean when you also look at the titles soon to come out like Huxley and Gears of War, they all have that generic plastic look to all the character models and enviroments. The colour pallettes, texturing and the lighting also look very similar as well, so if you were just some non-casual gamer and took a quick glance at all these games, you probably wouldn't even tell a difference. The same thing can be said when looking at both id Software's Doom 3 and Quake 4, especially wit hthe whole "dark lighting" look. It's nice to have next-generation graphics and game engines to offer nice graphics and new physics and all, but really, it just seems that PC game developers are lazy. Because of the way that PC hardware advances so fast, it's like they just take the easy route and switch onto the next most powerful thing to create something. I personally still think that the Unreal 2 engine is capable enough of producing some nice looking visuals, yet not so many developers maximise it's potential. It's just a shame really. Unreal Tournament 2004 is still a nice looking game. |
