Good news for retro fans!
QUOTE
It's been some 15 years since that first dark and stormy night when Lester Chaykin's Ferrari skidded across players' screens and pulled them unwittingly into Another World, a scene subsequently repeated countless times across nearly as many platforms. More recently, the game has seen several efforts to downscale the experience for portable play from GBA to GP32 to mobile phone, but now creator Eric Chahi is set to personally bring it back up to size.
On April 14th, Chahi will release an enhanced remastered version of Another World, capable of running at high resolutions up to 1280x800 and with newer more richly detailed backgrounds, giving old fans a chance to revisit the world in a new light, and allowing new players to experience both the ecstacy of its serenity and uniquely rhythmic adventuring, and of course the agony of its signature repeat sudden deaths. "It's a collector's re-issue, not a remake," says Chahi, "When I created Another World I was already thinking that one day it would be able to run on higher end computers. The idea was to create something that respected the original release, so the enhanced backgrounds are in harmony with the flat polygon animations. And, of course, the game in its original 16 color form will be available too." More of this sort of thing! There's an official site but currently it's only available in French (English version is in development though) Visit Edge for further details. |

Can I just say........OMG...!!!!
I've had so much fun with this game back on the SNES many years ago. Frustratingly hard at times to figure out how to do things, but the best thing out of it all was the amount of bizzare ways you can kill yourself. The first level with those worm slug things that just stratch you on the shin, now that was just very surprising yet funny also! And for a game so simple as well, it also brings you a sense of fear. It's like do you want to step over here, or touch that! Great game this was! And anyone also remember Flashback? Had that for the Mega Drive and that game was really difficult itself! Be nice to see a re-mastered version of this too! |

I remember playing a demo of this and the actual sequel Flashback on my old Amiga 500. Can't think how many years ago it was though......feeling me age again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
Hope it's a good rebirth. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) |

English Index with download.
Another World was a lot harder than Flashback, and of the two I actually preferred Flashback - mainly because I could actually see my death coming on that, and it wasn't as shocking and as instant as Another World. Still, both great games. |

Sad that this demo is so short - even sadder because it took me an absoulte age to get past the five screens contained within.
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Still it's only five English pounds for the whole thing! |
