I can't believe it's taken me so long to find this, but whilst researching other things on this great world-wide interweb, I stumbled over this site - with a rather nifty remake of the 1992 (14 years old!) version of Alien Breed

How it made me weep with tears of joy...

AND AND AND!

The guy/gal even made a level editor + guide

Alien Breed Obliteration

Play it! Play it now!

Just gave it a quick go, apart from being quite bad at it (can't manouver myself so easily with arrow keys) it was good fun. I didn't pay attention to what half the pickups I got were, but at 9 oclock in the morning, all I was really interested in was blowing aliens up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

I remember this as a game that was both excellent and Very frustrating as I could never remember the route to the exit (you did have to blow the level up didn't you?)

It was also great in co op

No co-op mode on the remake - and yes, there were many levels where you had to blow the place up, and the escape to the deck lift in time - damned hard, but great fun.

Fantastic music on the original too (this version seems slightly sped up)

I agree it looks glossier and more up to date graphics wise, but somehow it also looks less scary.

I think Alien Breed managed to slide in on the tailcoats of Alien the movie with a similar looking alien who was gonna rip you a new one, rather than shooting you, which...although you end up dead either way.....is somehow a much cleaner and less scary exit to my mind.

It's true it's a much flashier game, nice sets, bright and colourful etc....but?

At work so it takes an age for each screenshot to load - looks interesting though, although I can't see why the UK release date is so far behind the rest of Europe.

Agree that being over-whelmed by numbers of nasty pointed-toothed things is much worse than being out-gunned.

Hum.

Having watched the trailer I'm somewhat less impressed than I was originally, it seems much chaotic than Alien Breed - and the voice acting/cut scenes seems to leave a lot to be desired.

A good online, co-operative Alien Breed clone is the wonderful mod for UT2004 that is Alien Swarm - by far my favourite out of all the mods I've tried for UT2004, just a shame that no one else on the forum took an interest.
