First off let me make clear I've no desire nor intention of trying this myself - to me a pc is something to use rather than an object of beauty in itself. Nevertheless trawling through a lot of sites recently has opened me up to the possiblities of doing interesting things with these cases.

So I thought how about a thread where we put in ideas for cases and should anyone's fancy get tickled they can boost the ideas for themselves (free of charge!).

So here are my pennyworths.

#1 - An empty case. You know how you can get these clear cases well it seemed to me it'd be nice to have an invisible system in one of these. I can think of 2 ways to do this, both of which are about illusion.

First off you could take a small camera (you'd obviously need 2 one for each side) and put it on the other side of the case facing away from the pc. You have two thin screens inside each side of the case. You then broadcast the image onto the opposite screen. Thus anything on the other side would be visible through the case. Would this work?

Second off is more of a cheat. Same kind of case or one of those with a large panel in the side. (Ok this is big time cheating and not really modding) Use a shuttle system stored vertically inside the case at the front of the unit where the drives sit. But to make it interesting have some cables inside the larger case that quite obviously are broken. Perhaps even have some kind of unit hanging down . I like the idea just at present of a working unit that looks utterly bust. rolleyes.gif

Funny that cos lots of people find that they have a bust system that looks like it should be working.

I may start modding my case, just really need a holiday of school to do it properly. something I think i will do is take out the air intake bits in the front of my case and replace them with black mesh. Think it'll look better.

I have a steel bread bin I don't use and just looking at it makes me wonder if anyone's done a bread bin mod yet? It has natural ventilation - you just lift the lid. And it's shiny. Don't forget that - very important in the world of computer modding and interior design... wink.gif

Another idea based on the idea of a shuttle system inside a tower case.

You know how if you stamp on a aluminium can it consertinas as it crushes? Do that or similar with a sledgehammer to the tower case (obviously remove the shuttle first and replace it afterwards)

Here's a possible design for my case window.

The annoying thing is these grills, would be easier if they we're there becuase then i wouldnt have to design around them

Or the second, i think I prefer this one becuase I like the simple design and its goign to be easier to cut.

ok, decided on final design, its simple but effective. I thought the idea of breaking the window up was a nice effect.

What you could do is since your designing the window around those two fan airhole grills, when the window is in place, you can then put LED fans on the windows themselves. Got lots of room on that side panel to make bigger window adjustments too.

I actually do prefer the above one since it is much simplier. The flame effect one is way overdone these days *Cough* Pilchy *Cough* and you would need to find access to a CNC machine for it to be possible.

Yea I though about doing that but then decided against because theres currently 8 fans spinning in there and its goign to get noisy if I put more in. I might put LEDs around the acrylic to give it a glowing affect.

Yeah I currently have 8 fans inside my case as well and it sounds like a vaccum cleaner. Well actually it's just this one fan that is making up most of the noise whereas the rest are actually quiet.

LED's would be nice and if they are anything like the ones that Pilchy also has, they are mega mega bright. That or cathodes, whether colour or even UV, or you could do with those flexible light strips for the rim of the windows. Loads of possibilities.

I'll put a couple of white cathodes on there. Started cutting it and while I was replacing a blade for teh cutting/grinding thing teh screw that holds it on broke, so now I need to find a replacement end. God damn these things, I thing i'll just get a more heavy duty tool for the job that was more of a modeling tool (apparently, my dad told me to use it for this job then looked pretty pissed off when it broke, I thought if he told me to use it it must be designed for such things).

Looks like I'm going to have to start my own tool collection.

Yeah to do a really good cut on a side panel, CNC is the way to go...

as for lighting, cathodes are great and movable, but led's for directing light at one particular area is better....

also changing them is relatively simple just un-solder and re-solder.. in fact if you did that way i may be able to help you source some led's etc....

with regards to the flame effect though, it is hard to do.. i am not entirely happy with the way that it came out, but in all honesty i havent seen many (although it isnt like i have googled it!)

The fans could be solved as i said before either go to silient X or consider converting to 92mm fans or even 120mm fans.. much better cooling potential with 120mm leaving the possiblity of adding in a thermo 120.1 radiator at a later date for watercooling
