Last night I reloaded D2 onto my pc for a quick game. At 2am I decided I'd better stop and hit the sack (my fundament had gone dead). I was deeply into the D2 mod SiC (Sanctuary in Chaos)
SiC is neat not only because of the rejuggled kit which includes gems of luck based changing qualitites (they flicker between 2 or 3 options till you use them), and not only because of the changed skills, and graphics but the monsters you're up against too have been modified. It's good fun stuff. Check out the mods central itself Phrozen Keep at http://d2mods.xfernet.com/ and the SiC mod at http://d2mods.xfernet.com/~sanctuary/ right I'm off to get a tick off the dawg (this is not a euphamism for anything  ) |

A while back I removed, for the the umpteenth time, Diablo2 from my hard drive swearing never to play it again.
It has always absorbed too much of my time, and I've never managed to complete the whole game and so access the fabled cow level, nor the nightmare and hell versions. Yet here I am again. Once more starting some characters out into the Sanctuary in Chaos mod of D2. In truth I've asked someone to download a bunch of D2 mods (most of which are 30mb+ <_< ) so I'm really just exploring SiC before trying out the new mods which run under patch 1.10. But even so, the only other game to quite so have it's hooks in me is UT. SiC is still an excellent mod - difficult, varied, and remarkably surprising when you consider it's a mod and not a TC. Does anyone know of any other D2 mods worth a play? |

To answer myself :P
I recently got my brother to grab me a chunk of mods most of which weighed in at over 30mbs each and of these the one I'm playing at the moment and am thoroughly enjoying is called Nezeramontias v1.07a. It's a D2 LoD mod for patch1.10 games and is full of new monsters, new dungeons, new stuff (including guns?!), new kit including souls which you can collect off killed enemies and wear as rings giving you some aspect of your victim and so on. http://www.cs.appstate.edu/~cb/personal/mod.html this is a link to various files connected to the mod as well as a link to the Nez forum at PhrozenKeep. This mod is currently taking up almost all my game time (as well as lots of time I should be doing other things!) |

Dan the Diablo Man! :D
I played the original Diablo when it first came out (?1997) which was o.k but repetitive, working your way down the ever deeper levels of the same dungeon didn't really appeal. So when number 2 came out I gave it a miss. Mind, you sure make it sound interesting. Did you play the original? I take it that 2 was an improvement compared to the first? |

Diablo 1 was beautiful. Not only in graphics, but gorgeous music too. I agree it was a bit repetitive and the need to constantly come back and unload junk was a bit wearing, but then most games have a degree of repetiveness to them.
It is also one of the few games I've ever actually managed to finish :P Diablo 2 and it's add on Lord of Darkness are a wonderfull pairing. (you can get the said wonderful pair for £18 from Amazon should you so desire) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...3872728-7007860 D2 is a much larger dungeon area both above and below ground, in different climates, and with a vast array of monsters to battle and stuff to find. The LoD add on not only expands your inventory but also adds to the original heroes of Amazon, Barbarian, Paladin, Sorceror, and Necromancer by adding in a Druid (who can morph his body into either a Werewolf or a Werebear), and also an Assasin. Added to the original games there are the mods. And there are a heck of a lot of them. Go see PhrozenKeep - http://phrozenkeep.it-point.com/ and you'll find a large and very much ongoing modding community creating both complete TC mods as well as minor plug ins and game tweaks. Some mods are for specific patch versions of the games, as they utilize code specific to that version (like the Sanctuary in Chaos mod which favours 1.09b because it allows gems to have variable modifiers that flicker between attributes until you use them - it utilizes Luck if you like). As you can see Mundy, as with UT I'm quite a fan. Despite not really liking the final chapters in the game, I continually reload, repatch, and re mod the game. Tis a weird world out there (and in here too). |

Thanks for the links and feedback Dan. :D Still don't know if it would be my cup of tea. Have logged it as "one to possibly reconsider"
