I've developed an intermittent connection problem so, I thought I'd narrow the search down by first replacing the micro filters.

Whats the best ones to get do you think, and were to get them from.

Best thing to try mate is get one off a mate and borrow it for a day or 3...

Cos it may not be the filter's as i recently found out.

Best one is probably the cheapest one. I think they are all pretty much a much of a muchness to be honest.

Just get a simple UK one is my advice, but as Pilch says it may not be the filter that is the problem. You do need to narrow down what the source of the complaint is though - you can check telephone leads to socket for modem, hard disk cables (as they are oddly said to conflict with adsl though it's hard to imagine why - mind you, you have an internal pci adsl modem so it will be more pertinent to yourself I guess).

Well, let us know what you've tried and we'll try help eliminate the rest. Good luck.

I know it's an obvious question, but have you asked BT to check the quality of your line ? Also, have you contacted your ISP regarding the problem ?

Also, check you master socket is not corroded. 18 mths ago (prior to getting ADSL), I had problems with the line and BT replaced the master socket (FOC) which had corroded badly...problem sorted :thumb: .

I dont think its the Mirco filter. The way to prove it is, when online use the phone, if all is well then its not that. The reason i say this, i used to have a bad MF but it never caused me the problems your having. Are you still with Zen, if so, go to their website, and check alerts, somtimes they are doing maintanice work in your area.

Just briefly, this problem first occurred about 6 weeks ago, and lasted
about 4/5 days.
The computer would be pinging almost continually whilst on line. (the
pinging noise you hear when you first boot up)
It seemed to rectify itself.

Then on Thursday it started again, only this time it lasted just 24 hours.

The first time it occurred I hardly ever lost my connection, but this time I was losing it all the time.

I got in touch with Zen on Friday (no services down) and the arranged to get BT to do a line check.
But I canceled it cos it cleared up, but then started again. So I've asked them to get BT to check the line.

I'm in touch with MRi, I'll let you know how I get on.

The sockets seem ok Wags, there only about 12 months old.

The phone works perfectly whilst on-line Simon.

I done that mate... then took me 2 years to sort the problem out... because it was intermittant, zen and BT thought it was me.. turned out to be the phone line going to the telegraph pole...

keep on at them, make sure that if someone comes out they are an ADSL engineer...

That happend to me a while back and my dad even though he works at BT could get them to believe that the problem wasn't us so it took them weeks to come out to find out it wasn't at our end then when they checked the lines they turned out to be faulty. They really should have a little faith espically if the person works for them!

This is one of the reasons when I went to bb I didn't stay with BT. Not because of any jingoistic desire to keep the service in this country, but because of poor experience of using help lines which go abroad so that they often don't know about local faults.

I don't mind a service from abroad if it's a good one. (I've had good service from software support desks abroad before - why the heck can't BT manage it)
