Hi all, I've just got broadband so I thought I'd look for an online gaming community and this looks good! I've also just got HL2 and have only just started playing offline but would like to play online as well. Basically how do I go about this as I've not played any games online before so I need an idiots guide please.

Hello Moppet, and welcome to our forum.

You've landed in the right place, theres plenty of friendly folk in here ready and willing to help ppl such as yourself, about to dip there toe into the on-line gaming fraternity.

It may seem a bit scary at first but you'll soon get the hang of it.

You will already have Steam installed.

Left click the Steam icon on your desktop. If its not there go to, start/programs/valve/steam.

Go to favorites, click add server. and type 195.62.28.26:27019 (easer to paste this in).

Click ok.

Highlight it & click connect.

Thats it.

If you want to have a mess about first, find an empty server. ExG server may be empty this time of day, or try any one you fancy. Just click Internet, and let it load up.

Thanks Ordep, I tried it and it worked but as you say, I was the only one in there. It's also CS which is fine but is there an actual HL2 multi-player as well?

Finally, what time do you guys play online, is there a set day and time or is it just whenever?
Many thanks again and I'm looking forward to filling you full of lead real soon....

'lo Moppet,

If you've never played online before you're missing out on a whole world of fun, you can follow Ordeps steps to get to our very own Exiled-Gamers server (currently running Counter Strike:Source) but there's many servers to choose from by using Steam.

Simply run Steam, click on 'Servers' - select the 'Internet' tab, and take your pick from the listed servers (although if you only have Half Life 2, you'll be limited to Half Life 2 Deathmatch (good fun!) and Counter Strike: Source)

You'll want to pick a server with a low latency, so that you don't experience 'lag' during the game (It may be wise to click on 'Filters' and select your location).

It may seem a bit daunting at first, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

Hello and welcome to the forum Moppet. We're all a friendly bunch here as you can tell and well its a different story once we are playing games online against each other :D, so nice to have you onboard.

Even though I don't own the game yet, yeah you will find that HL2/CS:S is a bit of a pain to set up for online play, but with Ordep's simple guide above, it shouldn't be much of a problem. If you have any other games too, give us a shout and will be glad to help, and then perhaps destroy you on it :P.
