Okay, so I played Counter-Strike: Source this morning and had verily much fun (busy server, me actually doing some good instead of firing an entire magazine into a wall), there was a guy doing the voice-speaky over the action thing - advising the team on what to do and where to go (didn't mind this as he knew what he was talking about) - but the tactics employed to gain victory were nothing short of camping the bomb points...

Which is camping, which is bad - but then, it's defending an objective, which is good.

I'm confused

Or does this one have other factors included with it? Say for example if you're the last man on the team?

I don't mind loitering around objectives to defend them (it doesn't give me a very high kill count at the end of the round though), but just wondered if this kind of practise is frowned upon by hardcore CS:S vets - who will call me names, and stuff....

It all depends on the situation.....

If your last man and you need to defend something, like a bomb spot or somesuch then yeah, or if you have planted a bomb and want to wait till it cannot be defused, it is fair game.

But proper camping, ie with sniper rifle and just blowing people's heads off constantly is where you will get flamed...

You just have to remember really what the objective is...

Have to agree with Pilchy..

Most CS maps have objectives ie planting a bomb or rescuing hostages.

Terrorists guarding the hostages or CTs protecting the bomb sites isn't camping.

Humiliate the opposition? Find the pony? Guess how many gobstoppers are in the jar?

I fail on all three counts, I do hope it's none of those.... :(

Best thing to do on some CS maps...

Go around the enemy's and attack them from behind most times they wont realise what hits them...

This works on maps like de_aztec and de_dust 1/2 etc.

But if you are say a terrorist, take different routes each time for example for planting the bomb.

I don't know - when I was playing as a Terrorist last night we went the same way everytime, and didn't lose once in doing so - it depends who you're playing against I guess, and how well organised they are....

Oooh - and the ratio of teamplayers to Rambos too..

And surely the best thing to do a maps with bomb points is to guard the areas and let them come to you?

For me, if i am a terrorist with hostages that i am supposed to guard, i will go to them and get around behind them and attack from behind. On a bomb mission, sometimes it pay's to plant the bomb and then wait a few seconds then clear the area whilst splitting up in different direction to take out any CT's that could be on the way into the area to try and defuse the bomb.

Okay, here's another one.

Playing on one of the de_dust maps as a Counter Terrorist, on a team that was being repeatedly beaten, and having very little money to spend - I switched to using a shotgun for that added up-close and personal death dealing fun - I did quite well with said gun, and managed to gain a fair few kills... Enough to allow me to afford a weapon I was much happier with (M410A - or something, with silencer) - but in games such as Medal of Honor, I would have been called a n00b for using a shotgun... Does the same apply for CS? Was I employing a 'n00bish' tactic to gain victory?

And what is the AWP? And why do some servers ban/limit its use?

PErsonally for me, in CS, using a shotgun, you would be classed as having some 'skill' because of its weapon nature and so it wouldn't be n00bish. It may seem so to some people but thats only cause they are probably just crap and a bunch of whiners!

And many servers ban the AWP because it is so much of a n00b gun. It's just the case of too many people getting picked off quickly with 1 or couple of shots and its just not fair to the game. People prefer to use weapons that require skill to, not just being a chicken wuss shooting from a far distance!

So yeah, the rules to this game is pretty much different to other FPS games, but the more you play the more you'll get used to it.

As noaki said the mainish n00bish weapons in CS are the proper sniper level's.

Some maps people dont mind you using them, but in other's they do tend to ruin it for everyone so i tend to avoid it unless i want to cause some chaos!

but the shotguns are great on small map's... they deal a lot of damage!
