Well, after all of you raving about HL1 & HL2 I thought I would give HL1 a go again. I am not doing too bad.

I am in We'VE GOT HOSTILES part, but have hit a snag.

I am in the lift going up to the surface, but the game crashes. I have tried updating to the latest version, but that makes no difference.

Essentially, the lift is going up, then it says LOADING on the screen and I cant move. There is a helicopter flying (I can hear this, but not see it as I am in the lift still) which is shooting and killing me.

Any ideas?

Try using a save point just before the lift and try again basically.

I occasionally had the same problem on that lift...The "Loading" message came on and the game just froze and stuttered.

Shirl.

The patches were mainly for repairing online glitches and problems (and adding new mp content etc) They shouldn't really affect playing HL sp :)

Is all I can say.

I will try an earlier save point as you suggested.

Short Media Forums suggests saving before the event, and.. jumping:

QUOTE
It is a very common bug in Half-Life. Jumping will get you around the problem. But if you do not jump in time and end up stuck...hit the spacebar and the shift keys alternately and quickly. Many times it will free you. The most common stickey places are when riding a lift through a map change. So whenever I get on a lift or elevator the first thing I do is quick save and then stand in the middle of the lift and get ready to jump.

Whilst Tech Guy hints that it might be down to the mode you're playing in - and to try OpenGL mode...
