I've just had a quick blast of Counter-Strike:Source, on an empty server, just for a look-see. Its beautiful, you must give it a go you on-line gamers. Why, I might even have a go myself it looks so good. |

Yeah, it does look good! I can see myself playing this, though I've only spectated so far. Looks a bit different from the usual stuff I play.
Ran the stress test also and got 89.2 or 82.9, I think it was the latter. Have pretty much the same hardware as you Ordep, but overclocked a lowly 2500+ processor. Gotta have a game of this. Maybe some of us will be ready for it tomorrow (gaming) night? Oh yeah, regarding the stress test in CS:S, does it run it at default values, say medium quality, no aa etc and at 1024x768 or does it run it at the settings you choose yourself? Guess I'll go and find out... |

Spook what you got your CPU clocked at?
But 82.9 fps is great for that engine! |

The CS:S 'stress test' runs at whatever video settings you have set for the test. The results are very inconsistent though and bear little relation to actual detail/resolution settings chosen.
For example, my previous tests were in wide-format (16:10) at 1280x768 with all texture, shadow, reflection details at full and 4xAA, 8XAniso and I got 85fps with Radeon 9800 Pro (XT speeds), 2500+ (2900 approx speeds), 1GB PC2700 (333MHz). Only when I maxed everything out in 16:9 wide-format (1900x1200) with 16xaniso, 8xAA did I notice a difference to final score - 19.04fps!! Otherwise I can tell little difference between AA/Anisotropic settings with all other video options set to max (asides resolution which is set at 1280x768) - results came back as 77-78fps mark, regardless of anisotropic filterng set to 8x or 16x. Maybe I'll fiddle with AA, perhaps that's the killer and not the AS? Looks good though - :) Yes, Ordep - if you're around, I'll be on msn late - just give us a shout if you want a quick game. I'm using 'Corporal Spook' as a game tag for the moment. |

Probably a bit late now, but post something up at ExG, in the shoutbox or whatever and I'll have a game or three. Corporal Spook is the name.
(Getting repeatedly killed is the game.) |

I can't get animated sprays to work :(
I unzip them to \counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\VGUI\logos\UI where the other sprays are located but when I try to change spray,in-game,they aren't there....Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I can't "Import" them either  ***Edit*** Sussed it ...wrong folder!!! They go in counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\VGUI\logos Shirl. |

This may be a newbie question, and I've hardly touched CS:S so it may be something really simple, but:
How exactly does one go about making a custom spray? Thanking you! Edit: Na Ha - found some stuff via a Spook Tooth post here, still anything else anyone else has to say is always welcome This post has been edited by The Ghost of Inept Pig on Dec 2 2004, 8:01 |

Ok I just had a quick go on Pilchy's server and aside from Spook and maybe one other of us (can't remember who cr@sh is) it was a bunch of foreign devils (only meant in that they didn't speak english and kept killing me).
First impressions are, it is very pretty. The map was crap (one of these tiny men huge environment things). The time allowed for buying weapons is too short (if you survived the last round you keep your weapons but for those who died (and are probably less good) they have a bog standard pistol and little time to re-equip. And frankly - and this aint whining it's just it's something we regard as bad sportsmanship in CoD gaming so I'd assumed it was so across the board - it was little more than spawn killing. You spawn on the opposite side of an open plain. You have 5 seconds to try and pick a gun and ammo (no time for anything else) and then some buggers sniping you....you're dead. We were getting killed in small piles. If it had been one of the desert maps with good cover or something it would probably have been different, but for me unless there's some tactics, some scrambling, and heck something more than sniper fights it's kind of a waste of effort. And it is a shame, cause I wandered around an empty map last night, marvelling at the weaponry (though it's all kind of the same with little apparent difference except in the power of the hit - doesn't seem to effect you whether youre carrying a massive mg or a small pistol, doesn't effect scope waver and so on). But it's nice pushing barrels and bottles around with a maching gun :P . And the landescapes can be pretty and the hostage stuff looks fun..........but I forgot the human element. The truth is out there - and it's simply this, choose who you play with, cause there are some real assholes around. <_< |

Yeah the normal CounterStrike is pretty much like this itself. You just get loads of cheaters with wallhacks and many people on the opposing team who just rush and wipe out everyone even before you have a chance to do anything. The weapon spawn time sometimes is a bit of an arse I agree. Hence whenever you don't have time to buy your favourite weapon you might as well try and use AutoBuy. Even if you don't have enough money and it only gives you a miseasly pistol, least it will get you off the spot quickly.
Even though I have yet to play this version, it pretty much sounds the same as the original with the weapons in terms of difference with power and affecting the scope waver. It just depends on how skilled you are and where you shoot somebody. I have cases where some people, including myself at times manage to kill somebody where they have a powerful automatic gun whereas I only have a dinky pistol. Either they are very bad shots because they spray the weapon, which is a very bad idea and I so get more accurate shots on the body/head areas. Now the 'real' assholes in this game are the damn teamkillers whenever friendly fire is on or people that just block your way in a narrow corridor so you cannot get past and then you suddenly get killed out of nowhere. |

Hey dan....
Hopefully for tonite we will use some proper map's plus a couple of custom's.... Ill increase the buy time, and ill give out some extra cash depending on what goes on.... But once you get used to the buy menu's you can pick the 4 nade's, night vision, guns and ammo in a very very short space of time..... with a second to spare literally.... Naoki is right, with the pistols it can happen that you can take a sniper out... normally them with the magum's as they have a slower reload time, so you can get more shots in.... That rats level though is the worst one i have seen, the old CS had some based in a kitchen and each team started in a cupboard thus plenty of protection... I'll have a look at rats 2004 but that i think is still missing lots of pieces like texture's... But it is proper rat's ;) |
