Hello,
I own Medal Of Honor Allied Assault (MOH AA) and expansion Spearhead, but did not invest in expansion Breakthrough. I also own Call of Duty. 1- For single gaming: What should I go for? Another game? Expansion to MOH or Call of Duty? 1- For online-gaming: What should I go for? Another game? Expansion to MOH or Call of Duty? Thanks, |

Hi frenchie.
I havent owned COD yet but medal of honour i think is reasonable online. I have tried single player and found it ok, but i much prefer the online side of the game. Simonp1, Dan Maggot and Inept Pig are probably the best ones to decide, although Simon is a great fan of moh:aa. |

What about Medal of Honor (MoH) Pacific Assault?
What about Call of Duty (CoD) United Offensive? |

Many on this forum have been raving about COD online, if you'vetried it you shouldd know what to expect in terms of expansion packs. There's also a post not far down from this one on the subject of COD:UO.
MOHAA is dated. Lermontov used to play Breakthrough online but most say it doesn't represent good value, especially as a single player add on. Others will have different opinions on all this. There's a lot of WW2 games out there and many of them are mentioned in this forum. Presumabley you have broadband, so why not download some of those demos linked to? Searching the forum will give you more useful info going back a few months on what the latest games are like for both online and offline play. PS -
You can download single and multiplayer demos. The game is due out in late November I believe though it may have been delayed. Check the forums - recently mentioned. |

Hi frenchie. MoHAA is something I've never enjoyed, whereas CoD is something I got so hooked on I've joined a clan. As a group the clan has decided that we will play normal CoD 5 days a week and UO just 2 days, and the reason for this is that after the originality wore off we had too many gripes/dissatisfactions with it. UO is good because it includes more weapons (including smoke grenades which add a whole new side to the tactics), more (and larger) maps, the ability to sprint over short distances, a ranking system which grants you useful bonuses for acheiving objectives, and a variety on game types now including Domination, CTF etc. It also adds jeeps, tanks and anti-tank weapons , which should have made a more interesting game. However aside from the excess of tanks leading to a staggered tank battle whatever the object of the game, it is also far more hungry processor wise leading to a bottleneck not on your pc but rather on the server. This means that on some big maps with tanks the ping goes up and before long the game becomes unplayable due to lag. We have found that by removing tanks from the mix you get a smoother game, but even then you'll still get maps when lag kicks in and it's like playing in soup. There are other problems too; The snipers among us are not happy with the smoke grenades cause it changes the nature of their kind of game. On some maps the tanks can drive over lamp posts whilst on others they're stopped by small bushes. The ability to call in air strikes is both entertaining....and sometimes farcical. The current result is that whilst we still play it, we're more involved with vanilla CoD. We haven't given up on UO mind, and are hoping that a patch which is in the works will address some of these features. At which point we may shift our balance of play. I would also add that UO has a quite difficult SP game. (I got stuck early on and haven't bothered (dared) go back and pursue it further) - so that too may tempt you to have a go. UO has a great deal of potential, we're just waiting to see if it can live up to it a patch or two down the line. |

I agree with Dan. COD is in my view significantly better than MOHAA. UO is a great single player game (I've finished on 'hardened' setting :thumb: ), but UO online has some issues as summarised by Dan, and is very server CPU demanding.
Give CODUO a try and see what you think. |

Thanks for these answers.
For SINGLE-PLAYER mode, I think I will stay with: MoH AA + MOH Spearhead CoD I won't buy CoD United Offensive then, at least for now... MoH Pacific Assault? |

For MULTI-PLAYER ONLINE mode, which WWII shooter do you recommend?

In Team Deathmatch, for sheer uncluttered simplicity, MOH gets my vote! I got addicted to 'Breakthrough' online (finally broke the disc so I couldn't play it anymore but I miss 'Brest', 'Verschneit'?? and Southern Village' to name but three maps I visited carnage upon) but you would find that many of the maps seemed to exist on the various different online versions of the MOH franchise. Hated Reteurn to Castle Wolfenstein, thsoe ludicrous high-jumping soldiers, was more like a cartoon for me and too cluttered, too cluttered.
I don't know about COD online, but thoroughly enjoyed the stand-alone and the expansion pack which I thought was very good value for money as add-ons go. I raced through 'em with a passion! |

Frenchie one thing you do seem to have missed in my opinion for WWII shooters is Battlefield 1942. Single Player is well just below average, but multiplayer is great fun, especially with some of the mod's available desert combat, eve of destruction to name a couple....

Frenchie,
I would rethink not buying CoD:UO. I have always been a die hard Mohaa fan however I had my fingers burned with the disappointing Breakthrough and Spearhead expansions packs and swithered on UO, but eventually decided on another stab at the expansion pack idea. I have had nothing but laughs and adrenalin rushes playing UO. The game has lived up to the original CoD in every way. Well, apart from not topping the awe inspiring Stalingrad level in the original game but that aside its GREAT. The single player keeps you occupied and the new mp game styles has so much to offer. Nothing beats sneaking up on a Panzer tank with a bazooka and watching it explode or driving a T34 to knock out the opposition base. The maps also win it for me, the have been well thought out and presented. You get the usual great sound and atmospherics you have come to expect from the series too. I think the problems of lag are server specific and I have to be honest and say I haven't found it to be overly cpu demanding. Hopefully they do a take on the Pacific arena too! :) Moh:PA has so far disappointed me on the demo front, but I will no doubt purchase it anyway. |
