So, seeing as I acquired an new DVD player this morning, I thought I'd finally take the plunge and have a go at UT2004 online - and to add that little bit more excitement, I decided to go for a mod too...

However, due to my recent run of bad luck playing and installing mods - all I've got other than the original is Troopers (the Star Wars mod), however All Seeing Eye shows up a complete lack of Western European servers for this? Is there a reason for this? Has everyone abandoned it and headed for Star Wars: Battlefront? I'm just curious is all... It's not as good as the unmodded UT2004 when you're playing it by yourself...

I'm going to download and give Red Orchestra a go, and also the relatively different Alien Swarm - although Alien Swarm only appears to have two servers on the go, Red Orchestra has plenty...

Strike Force seems quite popular too...

Maybe I could give that a go if these two fail to inspire me...

Or maybe I could play the game as was originally intended, nothing wrong with that in the first place..

I Still haven't played this online.......which I fully intend to.

In fact vanilla play of it might be nice (though I suspect the knords out there will mess it up) <_<

They try their best - Alien Swarm is pretty classy by the way, yet so different to what you expect from the engine that it's based on, and online you control one marine from a squad of 8 (I think it depends) and take on.. Aliens!

It's darn classy, and if you work as a team you do quite well, but if you have childish people who abuse the mic and just generally annoy everyone - it's not as much fun, think Alien Breed on the Amiga, but faster - and with more than two players.

Lack of servers (about 2!) but not that many players - so it's fairly easy to find a spot.

Hmmm...

Red Orchestra, which I've heard so much about, is a bit of a fetish mod.

How else can you describe a mod that removes your ammo counter and cross hair and throws you into WW2 - far far far to realistic for my tastes, Alien Swarm is great though!

Not bothered to try Stirke Force as of yet - and was only really interested in it as it seemed to have a fair few servers online.

And Frag Ops has far far more servers than it too - so I'm not sure which mod I'll try next, Frag Ops is a possibility...

QUOTE
Today, Frag.Ops becomes what we had announced back in December of 2003: The next generation of modern tactical first-person shooters. In v2.0, a new gametype is introduced, called War, which grants the player the ability to build structures and deploy vehicles -- which can be as small as an M240 machine gun, or as large as a two-story sniper tower. There are also tons of features. We hope you're ready!

I'm hoping 'modern tactical first-person shooters', isn't code for Red Orchestra style realism...

I'm downloading it, may as well see if it's up-to-much (From Beyond Unreal: here)

I'd just like to add that Red Orchestra is beautifully done, and a wonderful total conversion from the original UT2004 - it's just far to realistic for my tastes.
