Played them both on 'Regular' and stonking good stuff they were, too! Even the music over the end credits was extremely rousing stuff, as well! Now I best get both of them off to a friend who lives about 50 miles away before I'm tempted to get into that multiplayer lark again! :D

I loved the original - but have never bothered with United Offensive, I blame EAs repeated cashing in on the original Medal of Honor:Allied Assault for putting me off, as that became rather shameless...

So, you're not even going to try to sample what CoD has to offer online? Not even for a bit? Or is all multiplayer gaming banned for you now?

Glad you enjoyed them Lermontov, I've yet to purchase the expansion but thought COD was first class.

I take it you didn't have a wee dabble at the MP then? Well done for shipping it off to your mate. I hope he's returning the compliment. :)

I dare not GoiP! Dare not! I can remember how much time I spent with MOH:Breakthrough maps online, Brest especially was the scene of many glories!

I found United Offensive just as good as the original, honestly did and pretty generous in length for an expansion pack. The only criticism of UO I can level is that it was much of the same as CoD proper only not as long. Loved the film nods: Enemy At The Gates, Guns of Navarone & the motorbike chase through narrow cobbled streests from Escape To Athena. The bomber section was great too, funnily enough, shades of that scene in Star Wars (the original, original one!). Only the tank stuff had me hoping for the next levels (as it did in CoD proper). Just don't grab me. The pitched battle through the bombed out remains of Karkov at the end was great stuff. Relentless in places. Those flak guns and the dive-bombing Stukas: "'AV' IT!"

But going online...nope, I do not dare!

As for loaning them out to my mate, Mundy, not sure he will thank me if he ends up staying up all hours fighting for his virtual life before having to go to work the next day!

CoD introduced me (via Wags) to the world of clan gaming and I've had a lot of fun playing it, though I understand Lermontov's point - such things are very obsessional.

Online UO seemed wonderful at first, get to drive tanks, and take them out with bazookas (or satchel charges if you're feeling daring/suicidal), get various more common FPS game types such as Domination, CtF etc, new weapons, smoke grenades, more maps.....

And yet, after the initial excitement it all began to pall. For a start UO is far more CPU intensive on the servers and a game can quickly become bogged down in heavy duty ping/lag resulting in quite unplayable sessions (and I mean unplayable with scores of us quitting a server at a time).

And frankly if you've a lot of tanks on a map it simply becomes a matter of large scale bumper cars, no tactics and a lot of frustration. In fact we've found that removing the tanks from our server makes the games far more interesting. (Leaving in the jeeps to help cover distances on the larger maps).

CoD is very much my game of the moment, whilst UO is firmly on the back burner waiting to see if a patch fixes the massive lag problems along with continuing hacks. <_<

Maggot's summary of UO online is spot on. :thumb:

For the first week it was a bit of fun, but team-play on the really big maps is pretty difficult to pull off and yes, lag is a problem due to the greedy hogging of the server CPU resourses. Playing the 'original' COD maps with the new weapons introduced by UO, along with the added visual effects is rather good fun, but you can't beat vanilla COD for low pings and smooth gameplay, at least for now.

Lermontov, it is unfortunately, highly addictive so I can understand your reluctance to try it out online (especially as it is SO much better than MOHAA) ! :w00t:
