Rumors abound about a sequel to SS2.

I've read that - it was quite nice to read about the rather classy System Shock 2 again, which is still one of my all time favourites - but System Shock 3?

QUOTE
But why even look back at System Shock 2 at this point? Because Irrational has been, and it plans to make a related announcement this Friday (tomorrow). The studio has decided that it wishes to further what it started in System Shock 2--to work on games that promote "emergent" gameplay--open-ended exploration that offers many choices and combinations of options to players. You'll see what we mean tomorrow. Be sure to come back then.

I can only hope for such things..

Its going to be called BioShock, described as a "spiritual successor" (to SS2)

Sounds interesting though an old formate.

Does sound interesting, if they can manage to re-create the tension and atmosphere of System Shock 2 it'd be lovely...

BioShock takes place in a mysterious genetic laboratory. Other than that the complex is strewn with corpses (also for reasons unknown), nothing is clear to you. From what you can tell, the laboratory complex is apparently a holdover from World War II--you'll see remnants of the war as well as peeling paint throughout the complex. Something apparently happened back then that caused the complex to be abandoned by whoever was using it. In fact, the complex has only recently come back into use by the scientists circa the early 21st century, and advanced, top-secret contraptions used for arcane biotechnology experiments have been hastily bolted into the rotting walls of the complex.

System shock 2 is one of the few games that I have never finished. I Infact I found it rather boring with far too many zombies and not enough variety. bought it second hand about 2 years ago, so maybe it was considered good in its day....

The graphics aren't that great, but you can download a mod from Gamers Hell that updates some of the textures - but if you found the game boring, I don't suppose that makes much difference - each to their own I suppose, I found the entire game special - and more than slightly creepy.... The RPG elements also made the game more diverse than if it were to be another standard FPS

On the BioShock front - the entire "you know nothing" start point is incredibly similar to that of SS2
