As I've had a couple of weird errors while trying to play UT and UT04 online I decided to uninstall them from the persona they'd been installed on ( you know how XP lets you create different persona's under Documents and Settings etc), and reinstall them under the persona I use for connecting to the net.

It made sense to me anyhow.

The uninstall of UT went fine, the procedure letting me uninstall a host of mods and voice packs at the same time. With just a little user file tidying up to be done afterwards.

However UT04 occupying a hefty 5Gb of drive just doesn't want to go.

Everytime I try and run the uninstall procedure (either using it's own pull down menu, running setup from the disk, or even trying Remove Programs under XP) I get the same removal options that I had under UT, including the option to remove the UT mods I've already wiped from the drive, but no option to remove Ut2004!

Anyone know how I can safetly take this off the drive (before reinstalling it)

If not I guess I'll try and reinstall it in a thoroughly different place and hope that the two copies don't give each other grief, but I'd much rather wipe this cantankerous beast first. <_<

Cheers Ordep, had a look...

QUOTE
you can invoke the UT2004 uninstall program manually by
executing UT2004\System\Setup.exe. If the Troopers setup
information is on your system, you will be opted to select
which parts of UT2004 you want to uninstall

tried this already but for some reason UT04 is trying to uninstall UT99, which has already been uninstalled......I love computers.

I've even used a registry explorer to make sure UT(99) is no longer mentioned in there, which it aint.

Sorry can't be of much help - I've had a look around but came across a lot of irrelevant stuff and stuff which didn't work when I tried it myself.

However, despite telling you this pointless info, have you tried downloading one of those uninstaller programs?

Here's one:

http://www.free-online-guide.com/uninstall...ms_software.htm

Though I haven't tried it myself, it should give you another avenue for dealing with this problem.

Cheers Spook, currently having a look at the blurb.

As a matter of curiosity the program linked to in the review Easy Uninstall 2, is not the one reviewed, but a similar one by a different manufacturer Ontrack Easy Uninstaller ....wonder if their link's been hijacked.

Then again the program reviewed EU2 is not showing as XP compatible ..... gonna have to do some reading on this I think.

Nevertheless thanks cause I hadn't even thought of it as a route. :P

In fact I'm gonna try this one http://www.innovative-sol.com/uninstaller/index.htm as it's free to try, if it works on UT04 I may well get it.....if it doesn't and I lose access to the system or something, then I probably won't

Well ..... nuts. Didn't work. In fact the uninstaller kicked in exactly the same inhouse uninstaller that UT04 has been trying to use (and which actually is for UTand its mods, all of which having already been removed)

I had a similar prob with Unreal2 which also won't uninstall (but only takes up 700mb on the drive so it's not so bad), and the proggy couldn't shift that either.

This is often why I have to reinstall an OS, the system just gets too clogged. Fortunately with a nice large hard drive 5gb is not so bad.

Have you tried using a program such as CCleaner to clean up your registry (it even allows you to make a back-up before it makes changes) - or even to try and uninstall it with?

Just a thought..

Yeah, and if that doesn't work you could try reinstalling both UTs over the current immovable files - this should repair the uninstaller and then it might well work. Sorry I didn't remember that route the other day but have tried it myself with success in the past when nasty mods didn't go when I wanted them to.

Shame the uninstaller program you tried didn't do it - another prog might but likely would come up with same problem (uninstaller corrupt).

Sadly all these uninstaller programs are doing the same thing, which is activating UT2004's own corrupted uninstaller internal proggy and each time it throws up the same option to uninstall all the mods and packs from UT (99) which I've already successfully uninstalled.

I will probably try the reinstall over the top option next, or else I may simply accept the loss of 5gb and hope that a new install of the game doesn't suffer from cross contamination of files.

Here's what M$ recommened you to do to get rid of unwanted programs that won't go:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...B;en-us;314481&

Don't know if it will help though you'd think the boffins at microsoft would know what they were talking about.

I haven't Ordep, but I think I will before I try the bodger route.

Spook, the link is a little confusing as the title "How to Manually Remove Programs from the Add or Remove Programs Tool" might be taken to mean removing the heading of a program from the Add/Remove menu rather than actually uninstalling the game, and after reading the peice I'm no clearer as to what they mean (typical of M$oft's help files).

But I thank you for the thoughts.

Will trip over to PCAd and field the querey there too.

After re-reading the MS link, I think you might be right Dan. Apologies.

Did you get anywhere reinstalling the game over the corrupt original and then trying to uninstall it again?

Well now I'm pursuing this in the PCAd help room, though I'm not having many nibbles.

Woodchips suggested rebooting in Safe Mode and trying the Add/remove route.

Sadly in Safe Mode it turns out that the game is no longer Listed in Windows Add/remove list. However when I tried the games own uninstall option I once again got the old mod removal menu for mods I've already removed and that were for the original Unreal Tournament that I've also already removed.

Tis a tad frustrating this ya know. :(

I'm gonna exhaust all my other options first spook as I'm a little concerned that this might make things somehow worse <_<
