Thought the Commodore 64 had crashed and burned? That the MegaDrive had turned to dust? Think again!
Games are rubbish these days, aren't they? They're finished within hours, cost about £120 each and snap as soon as you throw them at the wall. It was all different in my day, I can tell you. Games were delivered for free by the milkman, had an average lifespan of 34 years and harnessed gameplay so addictive, you'd have to go cold turkey and get hooked on crack in order to come down. We're looking through rose-tinted glasses of course, but you could argue that the games, and indeed games machines of yesteryear had a certain quality that was hard to put your finger on.

So, it's with great glee that we can announce the resurrection of two of the finest home gaming machines of all time, at least in the form of portable TV versions. Sega have decided that they don't want out of the console market any more, and are set to blaze back in, all guns blazing, with their mini-MegaDrive 6-in-1 TV games system. Okay, so it's not going to trouble the PSP, but this diminutive box of joy contains the original versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Kid Chameleon, Puyo Puyo, Golden Axe, Flicky and King of Monsters, and plugs straight into your telly. Words can't describe the waves of emotion that overcame us when we laid our eyes on these pictures.

But why stop there? Let's go further back in time! Tulip Computers have announced plans to dust off the old C64 in the form of a miniaturised version, complete with 30 games built in. Details are scarce at the moment, but the inclusion of the eponymous Summer Games and Winter Games are apparently assured. Other C64-related projects are apparently in the pipeline - Clive Sinclair take note, your time to make a comeback may be at hand!

However much fun it might seem to take a trip down memory lane and enjoy the gaming classics of your pimply youth, it never quite matches up to the crushing disappointment you'll recieve when you realise that all the games you used to play are, in fact, a bit unwanted material compared to even the most standard fare available nowadays. Take off your Global Hypercolour t-shirt, turn off that Whigfield cassette and get with the times, you square.

Quite a nice way to get some people who are into the current games to get the good old feel of the Retro Gaming years.

As for my comment on the last paragraph, haha yeah right!! Nothing beats the good old switch it on and easy gameplay playability of the good old classics.

Having toyed with emulators and the like I'm actually inclined to agree with the fact that the majority of old games are actually rather poor by todays standards...

The idea is a good 'un though, I do wonder which games the C64-version will come with....

Along the same lines, there's been two more plug-and-play controllers announced - for Space Invaders (which will also come with Phoenix, Colony 7, Qix and Lunar Rescue) and Tetris (which will also come with Battle Tetris, Garbage, Timed and Hotline) apparently set to retail at £24.99.

Although I'd probably much rather pay an extra £5 and get the Mega Drive version.
