It's all about the innovation as Satoru Iwata says Nintendo won't compete over technical specs.
It's perhaps not surprising from a company who've just shown us all the quirky glory of the DS, but Nintendo honcho Satoru Iwata once again went out of his way to tell us that Nintendo's next home console (currently carrying the alphanumeric tag 'N5') won't be competing on the technical front with the PS3 and Xbox 2.

"The word different defines our next home system. Better technology is good, but technology is not enough. Today's consoles already offer photorealistic experiences. Simply beefing up those graphics will not for most of us make a difference," said Iwata-san. He went on to say that new machines needs to offer gamers more.

"They must offer different playing experience - something no other machine has done before. Our vision of a new machine must be different. I want you to know that Nintendo is embarking on our next system and that system will create a gaming revolution." Mr Iwata also said that internal development is already underway and (in charming Japlish) "When the impact of our new home machine comes our revolution will be here."

It's an exciting time to be a Nintendo fan.

Now the Nintendo 'honcho' makes perfect sense and speaks the truth. It really isn't all about power and specifications for a console. Take a hint Bill Gates!! I mean if you look at it now, the Gamecube is the least powerful system (well in some areas) compared to the PS2 and Xbox, yet is still can keep up with some good or even better looking games. And from some of the quality games on the Gamecube, you can easily tell. As always, Nintendo are being original.
