As some know i am going back down to devon for the summer...
And being that some days off or in the evening's there is sweet FA to do, i am seriously considering a console to buy at some point. Looking at either PS2 or X-Box. I am looking for driving games so i know gran turismo is a must on PS2 aswell as sports Pro Evo and also mebbe smack down series. But the thing is that i dont know what games are like on the X-Box and what is coming out that may take my fancy.. So come on... fill me in... BTW i am going tomorrow nite so respond quick! |

Who's Guy?
Sorry that I can't help on the console's question, but I guess Naoki and Dan will chip in later on. Have a good time in Devon and don't be drinking too much JD! A console is probably a good idea, either that, or a pack of playing cards. |

I would simply pick the PS2 straight away in my personal view. It has far more games, and far better quality ones at that.
With the Xbox, there are 'some' good games on there, but the majority of them are PC style games, so your not really looking at much. My opinion is very biased since I just dont like the Xbox hands down. |

As a person owning an Xbox and a Gamecube, I too would say the PS2 is your better bet.
Project Gotham is the only racing game I've got on the Xbox and though it's lots of fun (particularly playing against a friend who's as bad as me) I certainly wouldn't buy the machine based on just that game. As both Naoki and I have said on other threads, the Xbox for all it's power, lacks the games to support it as a major console. The PS2 is backwardly compatible with all (or almost all?) PS1 games and so has a vast library at it's disposal. Amazon shows a listing of PS2 driving games at 170 which doesn't include the PS1 stuff. By comparison the Xbox has just 70. I'm not saying that quantity rules. But if I played a lot of games, and my Xbox broke, I wouldn't buy another X, I'd get a PS2 (I'd want something that played DVDs too or I'd just stick with my GC) |

Well i am hoping and praying that toca race driver 2 does come onto PS2. One forum i visited did so much as say this, but no-where else does, not even codemaster's.
But it looks like if i get something it will be a Ps2, just more dependent on if code masters do decide to make it PS2 aswell. Ordep... I had a lady whilst down there last year.. I ended up drinking waaaaaaay to much and lost waaaaaaaaaay to much sleep... (The night before my birthday up till 5 am just drinking and playing silly games... not very good when i had to be up at 7am and driving to work by 8am! nevermind good laugh and was home by lunch... as i wasnt supposed to be working that day! But any how guy's if toca is/does become available, then you can guess one more person has brought a PS2... no doubt that will give me more late nights! |

Could always get TOCA (the first one) for the PS2......probably on budget.
GT4 is in the pipeline(Oct29th) as is Driver 3 (June4th). What about CMR4? You'll not have any time for anything else! Which down in Devon would be a shame, cause it's lovely walking country, great scenery, nice beaches, clotted cream and jam sandies.......bliss. :P Have a good time Pilchy. |

LAPTOPPPPPPPP..
I have access to Xbox and PS2 and TBH they are both rubbish... As with all consoles the resolution is limited as they need to connect to a telly. Get a Laptop and enjoy PC games on the move...Consoles can't compete at all :( Shirl. |

This said of course, you can pick up a brand new PS2 for under £135, whereas a laptop's probably going to set you back a teensy bit more.
And then theres' the whole patch till you're knees are weak that you get with pc games. |

You would need a really good laptop in order to play games and that would just cost too much anyways.
True but is that the only reason? Games look better on 40+ screens though compared to a 20+ inch monitor, even if the monitor offers better resolutions & all that Anti-Aliasing nonsense. And consoles can actually compete on the move, especially for example, family cars coming with standard PS2's fitted in them and with all the gadgets and accessories to make them portable i.e. add-on TFT's. A laptop is still good especially for things like wireless internet access etc. But like I said before, you'll need a hell of a good one to play games & thats going to drain your budget. And with all the installing, patching, crashing etc, it would make it very annoying whereas a console is just put in a game and play straight away. |

And of course in a years time your PS2 will still run new games whilst your funky laptop may have been leapfrogged by technology. Sure you can upgrade it but that's more of your mulah just to keep abreast of the field.
