Please wait for the images to load...
sorry about the sidewards scrolling

Well this my first ever shot at a tutorial and I decided to write a guide to using the handy IM tool......(IMG:http://www.xfire.com/xf/images/home_xfire_logo_ltblueback.gif)

QUOTE
See WHEN your friends are playing online games
See WHAT game they are playing
See WHERE they are playing
And JOIN their game with just one click!
Plus, unlike existing Instant Messengers, Xfire lets you receive IM's without disrupting your game!

X-Fire...the handiest Gaming tool on the planet....

(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x1.jpg)

First of all the download is only 385kb and the install is around a megabyte.

There are two modes....

unexpanded

(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x2.jpg)

And expanded

(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x3.jpg)

We will explore the use of these when a friend comes online and is ready to play a game....

First however we need to add a friend....Again with the simple Xfire program this is an easy task... all you do is click "add+" then type the name of your new buddy and you all ready to start playing....

Adding a Buddy

(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x4.jpg)

Ok...Now that a user is onlline...we can talk to him/her by double clicking his/her name and the main x-Fire window...this brings up a chat box which can be used like any other IM program (below)

Having a Chat

(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x5.jpg)

Game and server info

(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x6.jpg)

Joining a buddy's game

(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x7.jpg)

OK...Now that we have learned the basic functions of x-fire to act as an online gaming IM program, I will now point out some of its more advanced, less commonly used features.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who's up for a game?
If a couple of you friends are online but not playing games you can easily let them know that your up for a match by selecting the game you want to play from the drop down menu at the bottom of the main x-Fire Window...(shown below)....Then having selected this...on the left hand side of your conversations(for your buddies) it will read "yourusername" Up for a game of "the game you selected"....
(IMG:http://members.lycos.co.uk/andysimages/X_fire/x8.jpg)

Feel like being a loner?
My last tip for using x-fire is....If you just don't feel like playing only and all you want to do is have a quite game either completely on your own or against the AI all you have to do is select tools, launch, then your desired game....

Nice guide Andy. It sure has helped me out a bit for when I can be bothered to downloadand use the program. It looks really similar to MSN or other message programs but with added feature of games server tracking.

Not me

I think we've all shared our details elsewhere on the forum anyway

Nice work Andy :)

Nor me- since we've already shared out X-Fire names elsewhere, there seems little point in blurring them out on your guide.

We've decided to make it a sticky in the Online Gaming Playground for now, if we get more online guides we may change this around.

But for now, good work that man :thumb:

Just a post to say that X-Fire has been updated many times since the last post here, and now has more functions, including listing recently played servers, and the option to embed your mini-profile into web pages...

(IMG:http://miniprofile.xfire.com/ghostpig.png)

Although it probably helps if you switch X-fire on more when you're playing online , or even played online more....

There's also an option to continue communicating with X-Fire, whilst in-game... which could be nice...
